I have been asking around lately to see how many of my friends have tried AI via ChatGPT, or Grok, or Gemini. If you have not, here is your chance. The box below gives you the opportunity to ask ChatGPT a question called a “Prompt.” ChatGPT’s reply will appear in the Output box. In case you are stuck for a question to ask, I have listed some simple prompts below. Go ahead and give it a try.

Here are 5 example prompts perfect for someone new to AI, designed to be simple, engaging, and demonstrate different capabilities:

“Explain why the sky is blue in simple terms, like you’re talking to a 10-year-old.” Why it’s good: This tests the AI’s ability to simplify complex information and tailor its explanation to a specific audience. It’s a great way to see how well it can communicate.

“Can you write a short, encouraging poem about starting something new?” Why it’s good: This is a low-pressure creative prompt. It shows the AI’s ability to generate text, understand emotional tone, and produce something uplifting.

“What are three interesting facts about sloths?” Why it’s good: This prompt demonstrates the AI’s ability to quickly access and summarize information. It’s straightforward and delivers easily digestible facts.

“If I’m planning a weekend trip to Vero Beach, what are three things I should definitely pack?” Why it’s good: This shows the AI as a practical assistant. It demonstrates its ability to understand context (beach trip) and offer helpful, relevant suggestions.

“Generate five ideas for a fun family activity that doesn’t involve screens.” Why it’s good: This prompt highlights the AI’s brainstorming capabilities. It’s open-ended but specific enough to get creative, actionable ideas.

Once you’ve tried one of these prompts (or even created your own!) and taken in AI’s response, you can tell your friends you’ve experienced the wonders of AI firsthand.

Just as personal computers and the internet were initially introduced to the public as tools for amusement and entertainment before rapidly transforming our lives, AI is poised to do the same once again. And now, you can say you’ve taken part in this new way of life.
