Finally, people are coming to us more often than we go to them. They know it’s time to join the social media movement, but they still don’t want to spend the money. They will tell us that there is no budget for a new website, or a monthly social media campaign, but in the next breath they are sharing about some special trip or large purchase, and I just shake my head a little bit.
My friend always tells me Cindy, people have money for what they want to afford. I guess I finally believe that. I am starting to sound kind of bah humbug here, and that is not my intent. What I would like to do is give a quick checklist for those of you who have inquired about social media services, but decided it’s not in your budget just yet. We understand that sometimes things are tight, but remember, ultimately, you have to spend a little money to make money. For now, we will just ask you to spend YOUR time, invest in your internet presence.
Things to do on your own:
Do Something, anything..
- Build a business Facebook Page: First you must sign up for a personal Facebook page. Get it up and running, ignore those relatives that are negative and grumpy, and make friends with all of your best customers, local contacts and family members. Then build a Facebook Business page, look for interesting articles in other publications and post links to them. Post a funny saying or photo every couple of days.
- Run specials and put them on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.
- Don’t worry about having thousands of Facebook Followers. Even if you just have a few, or a few hundred, make your posts something people want to read..fun or informing.
- Hire us to build you a simple WordPress blog for a few hundred dollars, and we will train you on how to use it. Then once a month put aside two hours, write some very short and simple posts about what you do, loaded with words you think people will use to find you and pre-load all of them into your blog. Then you can schedule each of the posts to go out once a week on your . We will teach you how to do it.
Please put a little money aside each month to save for a new website. They are not that expensive, and if you have an older table based site, dump it. The older sites don’t index well on Google and the other search engines, and what’s more, they will not show up well on Mobile devices. These days it’s not enough to show up on the internet, you must also show up on Smart Phones and Tablets.
That’s all for now!! Happy Holidays to all and to all a good day..
Cindy
